In Ventura County, there are two new transit centers - one completed in the spring in Thousand Oaks, and one completed this summer in Ventura. I only have a picture of the Ventura Transit Center. It is still under construction in this picture.

Then we have a picture of an old VISTA (Santa Paula - Fillmore DAR vehicle.) New buses are arriving at this time - several in operation, more to be put into service during the next month.

and of course, two train stations are under construction at this time. We are rebuilding Camarillo, including track work, artwork, track work, and parking areas. We are also building a new station in Montalvo in the city of San Buenaventura - which will be served by Metrolink.

VISTA is replacing its entire fleet of buses (primarily MCI's) with 2002 Van Hools late this year.

Moorpark have new buses on all its routes, and the SCAT Access new vehicles are also arriving later this year - lots of new buses.

Two other things worth. All of the fixed route buses in Ventura County are now equipped with NEXTBUS technology, and the VCTC has installed NEXTBUS displays at about 25 stops - which will be increased to about 50 by the end of the year. Also, while not visible for the exterior, all buses in Ventura County are equipped with smartcard readers, and all systems (SCAT, VISTA, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks Transit, Moorpark, and Camarillo) are using the smartcards.

Adding to the fleet - Dedicating the new electric bus.

From a Press Release:  Local elected officials joined California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) administrators today to launch a new, clean-technology bus that will serve the campus and adjacent residential area.
"The electric bus, which we've named 'The Wave,' will greatly facilitate transportation around our campus," said CSUCI President Richard R. Rush. "It also further extends the university's commitment as a green campus to support environmentally sound practices."

The Buses

Bus stop at Buenaventura Mall. SCAT and VISTA buses stop here. This is supposedly a temporary location; a fancy new "transit center" is planned.  Picture & text by C. Hobbs.  (ed. The bus in back is a VISTA bus.)
